What a bittersweet ending I never thought I would get so invested in this series I have grown quite fond of Aya, Moussa, Bintou and their turbulent life at Yopougon In the last volume, the main conflicts and problems were resolved, but we still got somewhat of an open ending Abouet leaves it to our imagination what becomes of our beloved characters Will Aya and Didier start dating for real Will Bintou succeed at the Super Star Station competition How will Albert adjust to life at Yopougon What a bittersweet ending I never thought I would get so invested in this series I have grown quite fond of Aya, Moussa, Bintou and their turbulent life at Yopougon In the last volume, the main conflicts and problems were resolved, but we still got somewhat of an open ending Abouet leaves it to our imagination what becomes of our beloved characters Will Aya and Didier start dating for real Will Bintou succeed at the Super Star Station competition How will Albert adjust to life at Yopougon now that his father knows of his homosexuality Will Moussa keep helping the poor with his father s money We ll never truly know, but I don t mind that one bit The Aya series is like a glimpse into the lives of the Ivorian youth We accompanied them for some time on their paths, and now it s time to leave them again Farewell, my friends

Read in French, but my review is in English, quand m me I didn t expect to be captivated by a graphic novel yet again after Persepolis , but I was this time Aya oozes charm You take a volume in your hands and land in a far away, but irresistibly cosy place where people are so much closer to each other than what you see around At the same time, although the names, dresses and proverbs are exotic, the relationships and emotions couldn t be easier to relate to.Also, Aya is almost encyclop Read in French, but my review is in English, quand m me I didn t expect to be captivated by a graphic novel yet again after Persepolis , but I was this time Aya oozes charm You take a volume in your hands and land in a far away, but irresistibly cosy place where people are so much closer to each other than what you see around At the same time, although the names, dresses and proverbs are exotic, the relationships and emotions couldn t be easier to relate to.Also, Aya is almost encyclopedic in how it depicts virtually every social and economic level of life in C te d Ivoire In general I must admit that this comic book opened a little door to Africa for me, now the word Africa means a littleto me than before.I enjoyed the art of Aya , all the characters are so well developed, all children look like their parents, many characters go through transformations they either grow older, or simply mature, or even becomeattractive as new and better qualities of their character are revealed

Excellent.

What I was looking for in this ending, I m not entirely sure I guess aconclusive ending to all the Yopougon plotlines and less emphasis on Moussa and Gregoire In this last installment, Inno s ending was definitely the best and most emotional and I m pretty satsified with it Abouet also shows ussides to her characters, especially Bintou, who kicked ass in this volume I don t feel like I wasted time on this series it was good The Aya series has so much charm I just feel like ther What I was looking for in this ending, I m not entirely sure I guess aconclusive ending to all the Yopougon plotlines and less emphasis on Moussa and Gregoire In this last installment, Inno s ending was definitely the best and most emotional and I m pretty satsified with it Abouet also shows ussides to her characters, especially Bintou, who kicked ass in this volume I don t feel like I wasted time on this series it was good The Aya series has so much charm I just feel like there was so much going on, you lose track of what s important and what isn t, and around halfway through probably starting with the disappearance of Moussa you can see the story kind of losing its way At the same time, you have to pay tribute to the potential that Aya opens up any of these characters could carry their own series, to be honest It s just a shame Aya didn t get to have the final word in her own Oh, I also haven t mentioned the art style yet somehow it s beautiful, flows very naturally, and fits its content very well The character designs and clothing patterns are especially unique and lovely
