This modern retelling of Bluebeard Mister Fox with a paranormal twist is truly amazing It has been a long time since I have been so enthralled with a book I actually finished it a few days ago and still can not get it out of my head Not only did she retell one of the darkest fairy tales I know, but she did it in a way that kept me guessing At times I actually felt bad for Dev, the homicidal serial killer True Story I wanted for him to be able to get some kind of happiness What is up with This modern retelling of Bluebeard Mister Fox with a paranormal twist is truly amazing It has been a long time since I have been so enthralled with a book I actually finished it a few days ago and still can not get it out of my head Not only did she retell one of the darkest fairy tales I know, but she did it in a way that kept me guessing At times I actually felt bad for Dev, the homicidal serial killer True Story I wanted for him to be able to get some kind of happiness What is up with that Amazing writing is what. The characters are what made this bookthen just a retold fairy tale Saintly was beautiful, complex and a whole lot of confused about her gift of sight Jesse is lost, broken, kindand dead Dev is immortal, deadly, charming and sort of a victim himself Filled with darkness, suspense, honesty, love and hope, this book is one I will read again I actually plan to get it in paperback as well as my e version It was that good. This is an New Adult book and I do not recommend it for teens due to some of the darkness and some of the honest portrayals of topics including suicide and the mental health system

I started this book on Dec 22, and finished it Dec 23 It s been a long time since I ve found a book that s kept me this captivated The story has just enough action to keep things moving at a steady pace Every time I thought I could set it down, something else happens and I m totally sucked in I love the author s play on names with Saintly and Dev And I love that the author skillfully peeled back layers to the story, only revealing a bit at a time It made the story truly suspenseful I re I started this book on Dec 22, and finished it Dec 23 It s been a long time since I ve found a book that s kept me this captivated The story has just enough action to keep things moving at a steady pace Every time I thought I could set it down, something else happens and I m totally sucked in I love the author s play on names with Saintly and Dev And I love that the author skillfully peeled back layers to the story, only revealing a bit at a time It made the story truly suspenseful I really connected with her character Jesse I think the story was given an interesting twist by including a lesbian character into the storyline, butthan that, I love that Jesse s fears and self doubt could resonate with anyone One thing the author did really well was to make Dev, the evil character, totally irresistible His motives might have been all bad, but man, that guy had the moves Let s just say that I have an all new appreciation for temporary tattoos On that note, I appreciate how the author was able to include a few sensual scenes, but didn t cross the line in her details like many YA books tend to do She gave just enough to make things alluring I m so glad I discovered this author I would totally recommend this book to anyone

I really liked this book but I found that as I already knew what Dev was about from the back of the book I hated him right from the beginning I think if I didn t know the fact he had to kiss a girl before midnight I really would have enjoyed the bookas I would have found itsuspenseful.I liked the development of Saintly and the power she gained throughout the book in believing in herself She was a very believable character who had so many awful things happen in her life that you wan I really liked this book but I found that as I already knew what Dev was about from the back of the book I hated him right from the beginning I think if I didn t know the fact he had to kiss a girl before midnight I really would have enjoyed the bookas I would have found itsuspenseful.I liked the development of Saintly and the power she gained throughout the book in believing in herself She was a very believable character who had so many awful things happen in her life that you want something positive to happen to her which you know is not going to be Dev I am glad that she is able to find her happiness I would love to read another book by Laura and know less about it next time

I tend to turn to paranormal books when I m looking for something different This was definitely a unique storyline about a boy Dev who has to get a girl to fall in love with him every year The girl has to kiss him at midnight for Dev to live another year Unfortunately the kiss seals her fate to die Saintly is his newest victim who is willingly falling for his bag of tricks Except Saintly has a secret of her own she can see ghosts and they have something to say Each character and st I tend to turn to paranormal books when I m looking for something different This was definitely a unique storyline about a boy Dev who has to get a girl to fall in love with him every year The girl has to kiss him at midnight for Dev to live another year Unfortunately the kiss seals her fate to die Saintly is his newest victim who is willingly falling for his bag of tricks Except Saintly has a secret of her own she can see ghosts and they have something to say Each character and storyline was so delicately intertwined in this enchanting novel The mystery slowly unfolds over time and is very cleverly crafted Although the ending was somewhat unconventional I enjoyed this deviation from predictable romances that usually load up my kindle

This story was definitely different from my usual genre Mainly, I do not usually read same sex romance However, this story had a different twist The main characters are Deveraux Dev Renard the perfect immortal boyfriend, Mariana Saintly Santos the girl who is still grieving over her twin s suicide and Jesse the lesbian ghost who committed suicide over 10 years ago This story had a lot of twists and turns that tempted you to flip to the end to find out what happen It was an enjoyable This story was definitely different from my usual genre Mainly, I do not usually read same sex romance However, this story had a different twist The main characters are Deveraux Dev Renard the perfect immortal boyfriend, Mariana Saintly Santos the girl who is still grieving over her twin s suicide and Jesse the lesbian ghost who committed suicide over 10 years ago This story had a lot of twists and turns that tempted you to flip to the end to find out what happen It was an enjoyable YA book to read The one thought I took away from this story is everyone isn t who and what he or she seems to be Don t be so eager to fall in love

Kissing Midnight is a little different than her other books as far as the ending goes It was still unpredictable, but somehowtidy than her other books and somewhatof a happy ending than I expected All in all I enjoyed it I really like the way these characters play off each other They go through their life stuff in an honest and captivating way There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and the dynamics keep you hooked Definite thumbs up

See original review here ARC provided by author in exchange for honest review Kissing Midnight introduces you to the weird and crazy life and mind of Mariana Saintly Santos Saintly is a girl who s lost a lot in her life Her brother s death brought some crazy things into her life, which she wasn t expecting, let alone wishing for That s until she meets Deveraux Renald He s charming, handsome and a little bit dangerous, but he manages to calm her when nothing else See original review here ARC provided by author in exchange for honest review Kissing Midnight introduces you to the weird and crazy life and mind of Mariana Saintly Santos Saintly is a girl who s lost a lot in her life Her brother s death brought some crazy things into her life, which she wasn t expecting, let alone wishing for That s until she meets Deveraux Renald He s charming, handsome and a little bit dangerous, but he manages to calm her when nothing else can He s all every girl would dream to have, but Mariana is the only one he wants to have, until midnight on New Year s Eve, that is.Dev is mysterious, extremely handsome and knows how to get girls to do what he asks Oh and he s immortal So of course, he s had a lot of time to master that trick He s been around, picking up girls to be with on New Year s Eve for years and years, because that s what he needs to do to stay alive Find a girl, make her fall in love with him and get her to kiss him at midnight The end of each year could mean staying alive or his death. Then there s Jesse She s a ghost dying to be seen so when she crosses paths with Saintly and she notices her Her ghost life changes forever She s there for a reason and there s also a reason why Saintly is the only one who can see her So now she has to help her, no matter what she has to do to get Saintly to finally listen and believe her.So that s a little bit about the story Now my thoughts on it.I really liked it at first When I read the synopsis it caught my attention right away It seemed a bit different from the typical paranormal romance story and I thought it had a lot of potential And it hooked me from the start, I was really interested in the plot and the characters. As the book went on, I started liking the main charactersandby this I mean Saintly and Dev Saintly was a troubled girl, so she needed someone who truly believed in her, someone that would help her believe in herself And Dev was that to her Well, that s what he seemed to be the romantic part in me had high hopes for him Dev acted like he truly cared for her, like he loved her but, as he said looks can be deceiving and boy, was he right So, first we had this highly sweet relationship between Saintly and Dev, which I have to admit, I really liked She was finally having a happy ending but everything that goes up, has to come down So, Saintly discovers what s really going on with Dev Dev shows his true colors and that s when you know for sure that there s no going back with him.So far, I was really pleased with the story It was completely different because sure, there wasn t the typical love story we re all so used to I didn t mind that the guy was actually the bad guy, you know What I really didn t understand and that s why I m giving it 2 stars was Saintly s relationship with Jesse I mean, yeah, I understood the basics of it Jesse was there to help Saintly see how wrong she was seeing things and I understand how she felt about Saintly, that was fine with me But once everything went down with Dev the story had this twist which was kind of , I don t know. like random Because, one second Saintly s in love with Dev, the next she isn t and the next she s in love with someone else Yeah, that made her lose all realistic features she had in her at least for me In all it s fantasy, the relationships in the book sounded real Like, sure. you can fall for the bad guy, realize he actually wants to hurt you and dump his ass or realize how you really weren t that much in love with him to begin with or whatever But no, the revelation came out of nowhere that she was actually in love with someone else I don t know I didn t buy it And the end. well that actually killed it for me If the relationships sounded unrealistic. well the end was just unbelievable

I love this book so much I want it to be my new best friend It is my favorite book by LBR so far It is listed as New Adult but the very little bit of sex and moderate level of darkness feels Young Adult enough to me I certainly have no problem sharing it with my 13 year old daughter who also loves it The setting is a college campus, my favorite for young new adult stories because it makes me nostalgic for my very privileged college years those first years of freedom and experimentation wi I love this book so much I want it to be my new best friend It is my favorite book by LBR so far It is listed as New Adult but the very little bit of sex and moderate level of darkness feels Young Adult enough to me I certainly have no problem sharing it with my 13 year old daughter who also loves it The setting is a college campus, my favorite for young new adult stories because it makes me nostalgic for my very privileged college years those first years of freedom and experimentation within the relatively sheltered confines of dorm and classroom life The protagonist, the Latina Saintly nicknamed thusly because her last name is Santos , struggles with grief over the tragic loss of her brother and is convinced that her ability to see ghosts is mental illness Saintly is approached by a sexy, flirtatious stranger who seems quite taken with her and she naively fails to realize that too good to be true romance is usually just that Saintly and her bestie Delia both fall for him The lesbian ghost whom Saintly can see, and who died in the 1980 s becomes another point in the interlocking love triangles Despite the harrowing descent into darkness in a haunted psychiatric facility the ending is spiritually satisfying and such a beautifully described visual extravaganza that it must become a movie BUT and this is a big BUT WITHOUT CHANGING THE IDENTITY OF THE CHARACTERS It is just so refreshing to find in a paranormal romance a protagonist of color, who speaks Spanish no less as well as a lesbian ghost from the 1980 s, also an original plotline with tons of potential for spinning off with prequels and sequels please please pretty please LBR s writing style is clear, concise, witty, evocative of feelings and senses I love the compassion she shows for her characters, even the bad angry sad ones Her suspense scenes flow and burn like lava but she never uses bad metaphors like that She has written a delightful follow up short story for Valentine s Day of 2014 which you can find for free on her web page but do buy and read the book first If you like this genre, you will love this book
